Renowned not only in Canada but around the world for its rapids, the Kicking Horse River is a must for rafting near Banff in Alberta, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Aboard rafts with a capacity of 8 passengers excluding the instructor, you will have the pleasure of crossing the class I to IV rapids of the Kicking Horse River, between the towns of Lake Louise and Golden. Depending on your level of rafting experience and the thrill you want to experience, there are several different routes to choose from to ensure you have an unforgettable time on white water:

Gentle Kicking Horse River - As the name suggests, this rafting trip on the Kicking Horse River is an introduction to the activity for children as young as 8, making it the ideal option for families. For 1 hour and 20 minutes, you will descend class I to III rapids in the heart of the exceptional Canadian Rockies;

Tradition Kicking Horse River - A 24 km descent for 2.5 hours of white-water adventure, with several class II to IV rapids in quick succession to gradually build up your adrenalin. The bonus of this option is the gourmet barbecue lunch waiting for you at the base once your rafting trip on the Kicking Horse River is over;

Whitewater Exciter Kicking Horse River - The most popular course, on the upper and middle sections of the river, comprising a total of 14 class II to IV rapids over 12 km. You will spend a sensational 1.5 hour in white water and come out completely soaked!

Ideal rafting route for families and first-time rafters, with a total of 6 rapids

Course of events

- Meeting with the team at the Wild Water Adventures base and administrative formalities (disclaimer to be read and signed)

- Quick presentation of the activity, then of the equipment you will be provided with

- Putting on your equipment (wetsuit, booties, polar fleece sweater, spray jacket, helmet and life jacket) in the changing rooms at the base, where you can leave your belongings in complete safety

- Departure by bus to reach the starting point of the rafting trip in just a few minutes

- Briefing on safety instructions and paddle handling, then distribution of participants on the different rafts (groups of 8)

- Departure for 1 hour 20 minutes of rafting on a section of the river comprising a total of 6 rapids of class I to III

- Disembark at the river's edge, then return to the base by bus in just a few minutes

- Undress in the changing rooms

- Debrief of the experience with the other participants over a drink, visit of the base shop if you wish and end of the activity

Activity requirements

Minimum weight: 50 lbs (23 kg)

Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian who will sign the liability waiver on their behalf.

Special terms

A waiver of liability will be signed on site before the start of the activity.

For any morning departures, you can have the option to add-on a gourmet barbecue lunch to your adventure: please contact the instructor directly once your booking has been confirmed for this option. The cost per person is $27 + 5% GST. The menu consists of a choice of a Mediterranean-marinated chicken breast, salmon filet, or black bean veggie burger, paired with freshly baked bread, three different salads, munchie mix, watermelon, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
