Learn More about Kingston

Located in the east-central Canadian province of Ontario, discover the municipality of Kingston. It is located at the junction of several rivers and canals: the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario and the Rideau Canal.
Formerly the capital of Canada from 1841 to 1844, the city is experiencing a strong tourist boom. Kingston is also known as the "limestone city", mainly because of its many buildings built from white limestone.

Start your visit with a tour of Kingston City Hall, a national historic site and the city's administrative and government centre.

Take a soothing stroll through Lake Ontario Park, Kingston's largest urban waterfront park. It offers a remarkable natural landscape that attracts both residents and tourists for picnics and walks along the waterfront.

If you still want more lakeside walking, Kingston's lakefront is the place to go. Being a waterfront, you can expect to see boats, walk along the shoreline, or walk or cycle along the waterfront path.
You also have the opportunity to visit the Little Cataraqui Conservation Reserve nearby. Featuring an impressive array of scenery, birds, and the relaxing sounds of wind in the trees or water flowing, Little Cataraqui takes you out of the centre but is your true introduction to the wonders of Ontario's lush life. Whatever the season, there's always an activity available: from cross-country skiing in winter to kayaking and canoeing in summer to hiking in the fall, the park is worth a visit year-round.

Continue your stay by visiting Murney Tower, a Martello Tower, a collection of small defence forts built in the 19th century throughout the British Empire. The tower was built in the mid-19th century for the Oregon Crisis (a border dispute).

Also consider passing by the majestic St Mary's Cathedral, a Romanesque Catholic cathedral.

Kingston is full of natural and charming scenery as well as fun activities.
