Coquitlam is the fifth most populated city in British Columbia, Canada.
This suburb of Vancouver is a gem to discover, although it is not a very touristic destination. Coquitlam is a city rich in culture and offers many recreational activities.
There are over 890 hectares of green space and over 80 parks and natural areas in Coquitlam, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. It also has a relaxed yet contemporary atmosphere and great shopping and dining opportunities.
For your entertainment, the Evergreen Cultural Center is a theater, art gallery, concert hall, and rehearsal space. There are even four art studios on site. The center opened in 1996 to showcase Coquitlam's diverse culture. Many festivals are also held at the Evergreen Cultural Center. The most popular is the Water's Edge Festival, a 25-hour continuous music festival.
Hard Rock Casino Vancouver is the largest casino in the province and, despite its name, it is located in Coquitlam, it also houses an entertainment venue, ideal for an evening of fun.
Not only can you walk around Lake Buntzen, but you can also enjoy a phenomenal view. The 2.9 miles (4.8 km) long lake is surrounded by a trail at an altitude of 328 feet (100 meters). The trail is 5 miles (8 km) in total and takes about 4-5 hours. Buntzen Lake is surrounded by beautiful nature and there are a number of other trails in the area that are not only suitable for hiking, but also for horseback riding and mountain biking. The hiking time on these trails varies from two to 12 hours.
Just outside of Coquitlam, along Sasamat Lake, you will find a few beaches that are popular with locals and tourists alike. They are located in Belcarra Regional Park and are accessible via Belcarra or Port Moody. Spend a pleasant day swimming, relaxing, doing nautical activities, and playing on the beach. If you prefer to fish, head south of the lake.
Come also to walk in the numerous parks of the city, Mundy Park, Como Lake Park, or Town Center Park, you will be spoiled for choice.
