• The Musée Départemental des Arts Asiatiques, designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange, houses classical and contemporary works. Free admission

• Along the Promenade des Anglais, you will find the Museum of Art and History, in the Palais Masséna. This Belle Époque building houses collections that tell the story of the city from the time of Bonaparte (1793-1815) to the 1930s.

• The Matisse Museum, also housed in a historic building (of 17th century Genoese architecture, to be precise) in the heart of the Cimiez gardens, offers a collection of works by the painter, who lived in Nice from 1917 until he died in 1954.

To get a good view of the Promenade des Anglais, you'll have to climb up the Bellanda Tower, which dominates the coast (free access by stairs, paying by elevator). Only a few stones remain of this tower, built-in 1830 on the hill of the castle. Once you reach the top, you will discover "just" a flowery park and its artificial waterfall, as well as an extraordinary view of the sea and the red roofs of the old town. Less cultural but very entertaining is the unmissable trip to the casino.

A walk in the city is a must. Among the cobbled streets, you will discover small craft stores in a picturesque atmosphere. Many religious monuments are also worth seeing: the Chapelle de la Miséricorde, on the Cours Saleya, which dates from 1740 and was built in honor of the Confrérie des Pénitents Noirs. 

Further inland, at the bend of a small alley, stands the current building, which from the 17th century was the seat of the Governors and Princes of Savoy who visited the city. 

But one of the must-see places in Old Nice is without a doubt the Cours Saleya market: every morning (except Mondays, reserved for antique dealers), this ancient esplanade comes alive with its fruit and vegetable market, as well as its famous flower market.
Finally, at the corner between rue de la Poissonnerie and Cours Saleya, look up to admire the House of Adam and Eve with its bas-reliefs dating from 1584. It is, in fact, one of the last old painted houses, once numerous in the old town.
