The only ferry to Samothraki is from the port of Alexandroupoli on the east side of the mainland. Another option is to fly from Athens to the small airport of Alexandroupoli. The ferry ride to Samothraki takes less than two hours, and you will arrive at the port of Kamariotissa. 

There are different ways to get around Samothraki, public transport is not well served and is irregular so don't rely on it to take you from one place to another you will lose time. Otherwise, cabs are a good option, but there it is very common to hitchhike, the locals will be happy to take you on their way.
