The island of Qechm, or Qeshm, is located off the southern coast of Iran, from which it is separated by the Clarence Strait, in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf, in the Strait of Hormuz. At one hundred kilometres long, it is the largest island in Iran and the Persian Gulf.

On the rocky and almost barren land of the island, dates and melons are grown where irrigation is possible. Fishing, animal husbandry and related economic activities are also a source of income for the local population.
