Located half an hour from Pedasí, this half-moon shaped beach is a paradise for surfers. Venao (or Venado) is one of those natural jewels, along with Santa Catalina, that make surfing enthusiasts happy. The waves are the most beautiful at high tide, left and right. Proof of its potential, many national and international championships are held there regularly, which seems to have boosted the work to develop the tourist infrastructure of the beach, completely transformed in a few years. Those who knew this small guinguette where we ate fried fish and where we could spend the night in a hammock or in a tent, alone in front of the ocean, might be a little surprised...
Elegant springs and groups of villas have transformed the landscape. The good thing is that those looking for comfort will find everything they want, but beware of the noise if you choose a hotel in the central part of the beach. Playa Venao has become trendy, with electro parties that regularly attract the capital's party people, especially on weekends. For authenticity and wild surfing spirit, it is now necessary to push a little further on the coast, towards Playa Guanico, Cambutal or Playa Morrillo.
Playa Venao is a huge sandy beach forming an arc, so it's a great playground for the little ones! Bring back the beach toys and the little cars, and let's go on a mega tour between two swims in the waves. It is possible to rent surfboards at Venao Cove, and in several other lodgings or surf shops along the beach; enough to initiate the little ones to the first glides on the mini waves which form at the edge.
From Playa Venao, take a day trip to Isla Iguana, to get there you have to take a small boat from the port of Pedasi (about 30 minutes by car from Playa Venao), the fare is normally 70 dollars for the round trip (for a boat, no matter how many passengers). On the island there are plenty of iguanas, by moving away from the arrival of the boats there is a way to find small spots in the shade under the trees.
Playa Venao has many accommodations on the beach or more remote. At the central level of the beach, the atmosphere is more festive. With children, Venao Cove is an ideal place of tranquility. There are different types of accommodation in this resort, from dormitories to double rooms and small houses ideal for families.
