Salcantay: itinerary to Machu Picchu

Nicknamed the "magic mountain", the Salcantay reigns in master on the Vilcanota mountain range from the top of its 6 264 meters.

This sacred mountain is tamed along the sixty kilometers of paths to be crossed on foot or horseback.
With its thousands of kilometers of paths, Peru is a paradise for the amateurs of trekking and cultural excursions towards the sites and vestiges Incas.

To join the most famous of them, the trek of the Salcantay imposes itself as a beautiful alternative to the very coveted "way of the Inca" reserved for the most farsighted.
Sporty but accessible, the circuit allows joining the citadel of Machu Picchu in 5 days of walk, through breathtaking landscapes

Peru a unique adventure

in the heart of grandiose landscapes and until the doors of one of the new wonders of the world: Machu Picchu.

A journey punctuated by the discovery of superb lagoons, meetings with the inhabitants, but also the visit of coffee plantations.

The Salcantay Trek: one of the experiences that will transform your trip into an unforgettable memory

It has been named by the National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine as one of the best treks in the world!

It is a magnificent trek through the Vilcanota mountain range, located between the Urubamba and Apurimac rivers, visiting several archaeological sites

Frequently Asked Questions by Travelers planning a trip to Salcantay

What is the difficulty level of the Salcantay ?

The Salcantay is considered to be of "medium difficulty" which means that you need to be fit, without necessarily being a great sportsman.

It is a little more difficult than the Inca Trail trek.

We walk about 5-8 hours per day and the altitude is an important element to take into account.

In addition to the air that offers little oxygen on certain sections (the guide will provide you with some if necessary), the trek presents wind and cold temperatures.

The trek arrives at 4650m of altitude, which is considerable.

This is very important!

it's necessary to spend at least 2 days in Cusco before the trek to give your body time to acclimatize to the altitude.

It varies a lot because of the different altitudes.

On the first day, it can be around 17C during the day, and the temperature drops to 0C or even -5C in winter.

From the second day, it is much warmer, so it is important to have clothes adapted to all types of temperatures.
