How to visit Menorca ?

To get to Menorca, you have two main options: flying or taking a ferry. Menorca's airport (MAH) is well connected to many European cities, especially during the summer months. Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Barcelona, Valencia, or Mallorca, which allows you to bring your car and explore the island at your own pace.

It's recommended to book your accommodations and any guided tours or activities in advance, especially during the peak season (June to September). Many of the island's popular attractions, such as boat tours around the coastline or guided visits to ancient sites, can fill up quickly.

Overall, Menorca is an affordable destination. However, costs can vary depending on your preferences. A typical meal at a local restaurant will cost around €15-20, while a budget hotel will cost around €50-60 per night. Car rentals and organized tours can range from €30-100 per day, depending on the type of activity and duration.

Some of the best things to do on the island include exploring the historic capital city of Mahón, visiting the ancient Talayotic ruins at Torralba d'en Salord, and enjoying the island's stunning beaches, such as Cala Macarella and Cala Turqueta. Diving and snorkeling are also popular activities, with Menorca's clear waters offering excellent visibility.

When it comes to dining, Menorca offers a variety of options. For a taste of traditional Menorcan cuisine, try Ca'n Aguedet in Es Mercadal, known for its delicious lobster stew. For a more modern twist, head to Ses Forquilles in Mahón, which serves creative tapas and local dishes. For a seaside dining experience, visit Cap Roig in Cala Mesquida, where you can enjoy fresh seafood with stunning views.

Accommodation options in Menorca are diverse, ranging from budget-friendly hostels to luxurious hotels. For a budget-friendly option, consider Hostal Jume in Mahón, a cozy and well-located guesthouse. If you prefer a more upscale experience, try Hotel Torralbenc, a beautifully restored farmhouse set in a vineyard. For a unique stay, consider the Agroturismo Son Vives, where you can enjoy traditional Menorcan farm life.

Off the beaten path:

For an unusual travel experience, visit the Cova d'en Xoroi, a natural cave turned into a cliffside bar and nightclub. Located on the south coast of the island, this unique venue offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, and the sunset is a sight not to be missed. During the day, you can relax with a drink and soak in the views, while at night, the cave turns into a vibrant club with live music and DJ sets.

Learn More about Menorca

The smallest of the Balearic Islands, Menorca, located in the north of the archipelago, does not have the same tourist influx as Majorca or Ibiza. However, this island, recognized as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, is very attractive! It's typically Mediterranean landscape with its coves accessible by sea, its authentic villages, its 200 kilometers of coastline and its dozens of fine sandy beaches and coves, or calas, with turquoise waters will be very much appreciated by travelers looking for idleness and tranquility as well as by water sports enthusiasts who will be able to enjoy them during several months of the year.

More than other islands, Menorca is preserved from mass tourism and above all it has the largest concentration of talayotic sites, with more than 1600 scattered all over the island, forming a real open-air museum. The charm of this pearl of the Balearic Islands is also nestled in the pretty streets and ochre-colored facades of its towns such as Ciutadella or Mahon, the capital. In the north of Menorca, we discover a steep coastline, as well as the wildest part of the island, the natural park of S'Albufera d'Es Grau.

The charm of Menorca is felt in the contrast of its landscapes and coastlines. One thing is certain, you will not regret your trip to the pearl of the Balearic Islands!

Menorca Beaches

What are the best beaches in Menorca?

All the beaches of Menorca are beautiful thanks to the fine sand and the see-through water. They are very prized so be sure to arrive early enough to enjoy their peacefulness as well. Dare to discover the surroundings of each of the beaches on which you settle because it is very likely that it hides another more intimate and lovely one.

The prettiest beach is Cala Macarelleta and Macarella (South of the Island, between Cala Turqueta and Cala Mitjaneta). Cala Turqueta is the most popular one.

It is highly recommended to venture to other beaches such as Cala Pregonda or Cala Algaierens (& Platja des Bot) which are dream coves for swimming in crystal-clear water.

Menorca Mountains

The mount El Toro is the highest in Menorca, the hike will guide you to the Sanctuary of the Verge del Toro (over 350 years old!). At the top, you will overlook the island with an incredible panoramic view.

It is not a mountain but the natural park of S'Albufera des Grau (5 000 hectares), will delight nature lovers and hikers in search of the wonderful local fauna and flora. The three walks are easy: two can be done in 1 hour and the third will take you 2 hours.
If you want a hiking experience, the GR 223 (also called Cami de Cavalls) goes around the island for about 200 kilometers. It takes about ten days to complete. Hikers will appreciate being able to orient themselves on the island at the sight of the mount El Toro.

Menorca Vs Mallorca

Both islands have common points : surrounded by their paradisiac beaches and offering fun activities.

Menorca will offer you a calmer and more relaxing vacation than its neighbor. Its flatter relief is ideal for walking, cycling or horseback riding. More wild, most of Menorca's beaches will be a little less appreciated by parents with young children but with a little extra caution they will still find their happiness. Smaller than Majorca, there are fewer inhabitants and therefore life is quieter. The party places are more hidden but don't be fooled, the locals know how to have fun and especially when it comes to celebrating traditions like the horse festival during summer. A vacation in Menorca is synonym of authenticity, relaxation and tranquility.

You will find Mayorque much more festive thanks to the numerous bars and discos. Five times bigger than Menorca, it has more inhabitants and tourists but also more beaches, facilities and activities. The island also offers hiking trails of varying difficulty that will satisfy both beginners and advanced hikers. Although this beautiful island is more popular than its neighbor, it is possible to find peaceful and natural spots if you look hard enough.

Which has better beaches Mallorca or Menorca?

It depends on what you are looking for.

Mayorque is the largest island of the Balearic Islands. On more than 550 kilometers of coastline, you will find no less then 200 beaches. The beaches are large enough to accommodate all lovers of water and sun. They are more equipped (facilities, sports activities, safety) than Menorca's coves, which are wilder and smaller.
Menorca has many hidden beaches and even some only accessible by water. Its beaches are smaller and therefore very popular at an early time, but their beauty is worth the trip. What could be better than a small beach to yourself?
