COMPLETE GUIDE: WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN KRABI

The province of Krabi boasts more than 150 islands.

Magnificent landscapes can be seen thanks to its immense karst formations which are ideal for climbing. The entire coastline is covered with them and often offers an incredible spectacle.
The coastline is simply superb: fine sand and transparent waters. Some of the magnificent beaches are only accessible by boat, which adds to their charm.

The lush vegetation is also part of the assets of this little corner of paradise.

For example, the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park has rich flora and fauna with impressive waterfalls. Then Bokkhorani National Park has limestone mountains, islands, and mangrove forests, with tropical forests, trails, and waterfalls.

Krabi is also an ideal starting point for the many islands in the vicinity, such as Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta. Krabi airport is only 17 km from the coast, while Phuket airport is more than two hours away.
A stroll through Krabi's daily market will be necessary to discover its inhabitants and local products.

Krabi is a province in the south of Thailand known for its karst cliffs, fantastic beaches, and a string of heavenly-looking islands.
But it is not only that, but it is also a region with fauna and a flora visible in several national parks, with rich ecosystems, many possible activities among which kayak, climbing, karting, etc.

INTERESTING TEMPLES AND MARKET OF KRABI

If you were to see even one temple, it would be Wat Kaew Korawaram, nicknamed the white temple, it is the largest complex in Krabi.
Overlooking a small hill (unfortunately too small to have a complete view of the city...), it is very quiet.
The main white building is recent (construction started in 2011) but its design has the merit of being a little different from what we usually find.

If you like markets, during the day you can go to the Maharat market

If it falls on a weekend (Friday included between 5 pm and 10 pm), you can go to the walking street, in Soi Maharaj 8.
You can also stroll along the charming walkway from the Chao Fah Park pier to the crab statue, from where you can see the iconic view of Krabi with these 2 peaks seeming to rise from the ground, like whales emerging from the earth.
This section is a little less than 1 km long, but if you want to do the whole walk, it starts at Thara Park, almost at the mouth of Krabi.

Frequently Asked Questions by Travelers planning a trip to Krabi

HOW TO GET TO KRABI?

Let's start with a certain logic, how to reach Krabi?

This is rather easy because Krabi is well served, accessible by plane directly via its airport. All low-cost airlines fly there, like Air Asia, Nok Air, Viet Jet Air, Lion Air but there are also some international flights, coming from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia but also flights coming from Europe, passing by Doha (see the available flights here).

It is also easily accessible by sea, mainly via Phuket but also via the surrounding islands in the Andaman Sea (starting with Ko Phi Phi, which is part of Krabi province).

If you are coming from the Gulf of Thailand, you will find the necessary bus connections. There is a bus terminal in Krabi, both classic and minivan for faster trips in the area. You can arrive from cities like Surat Thani, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, or any other major city in southern Thailand and of course from Bangkok.

Please note that there is no train line passing through Krabi.

Fares from Krabi to :

  • Phuket = 160 Bahts (see all rates and book)
  • Ko Samui (including ferry) = from 500 Bahts (see all fares and book)
  • From the airport, you can take a bus for 90 Bahts to the Krabi terminal. Count 550 Baths by cab.

Let's start with where you will most likely arrive, Krabi town itself.

  • It is primarily a transit town, where people use Krabi as a stopover and then travel to popular destinations such as Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta, or Railay beach.

In general, and like many cities in Thailand, the town of 30,000 inhabitants has little historical-architectural interest. It is nevertheless interesting apart from its quiet side, if only for the surrounding environment and the few possible visits in the surroundings.

It remains a tourist city, so it is well developed to find what you need in terms of accommodation, restaurants, and cafes to rest while waiting for your boat or your next departure. As far as food is concerned, the population of Krabi is largely Muslim, so if you like spicy curries, biryani rice, and the famous "roti", you are in the right place.

Even if most people simply ignore Krabi town and go directly to the beaches, there are in the town itself and its surroundings a few places to visit that might be worth at least a 1 or 2-day break.
