No matter what time of year you visit, outdoor adventures abound in the mountain town of Mammoth Lakes, located in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. Each year, the town attracts more than four million visitors eager to conquer the legendary trails in the winter, fly fish in the spring, hike the trails in the summer and enjoy the changing colors (and a few other visitors) in the fall. No matter when you visit, you'll find fun adventures for all ages, as well as the opportunity to be near some of California's most famous natural attractions. During the winter months, you'll find 150 trails for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels at Mammoth Mountain, (it's the official training mountain of the U.S. Olympic team). For a different setting, go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, visit the snow park and try ice skating. Enjoy spring skiing before the snow melts, which marks the beginning of trout fishing season in the alpine streams and lakes, and invites hikers and mountain bikers of all abilities to traverse the diverse terrain of the area. Mountain bikers will especially want to visit the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, a world-class park that spans more than 1,400 acres and features more than 128 miles of trails. Continue hiking and biking during the summer and fall months, but also set aside time for paddle surfing, road biking, horseback riding, ziplining and golfing. In the fall, you'll be greeted by the color-changing aspen trees and a few other visitors.
