Griessee is a lake in Valais, Switzerland. The reservoir is located in the municipality of Ulrichen and can be reached by road from Nufenen Pass. The lake is fed by the Gries Glacier. Its surface area is 55.5 ha. The gravity dam Gries was built in 1965.

Like so most glaciers around the world, the Griesgletscher is rapidly declining in length while also deflating like a giant balloon. It is incredible that change is happening so quickly and shows what may well come in only a few more years. I post this not to instill fear but rather to show that things must change if we humans are interested in living well in the future. Indeed, we can choose to live indoors. However, the destruction of the natural world and its beauty is a tragedy. Life will always go on… but perhaps without humans enjoying the smell of fresh air in the mountains.
